Some Things We’d Like you to Know

What do people love most about your congregation?

Our congregation is very mission minded even though we are a small church. We commit to giving to all four major mission offerings of the Presbyterian Church each year. The session challenged our congregation to do the Heifer International Ark Project. Our five thousand dollar goal was originally set to take a couple of years to complete. With great congregational and community support it took less than a year. We are a warm and welcoming congregation. We welcome all to our church with a smile and a warm concern for their needs.

In what ways are you making a difference (or hope to make a difference) in your community?

We maintain active involvement in our local community with projects including our combined VBS, held with Henryville Methodist Church and our parish sister Mt. Lebanon Church. This year donations during our VBS supported the local school by supplying items designated by school staff as being in urgent need. During the Christmas season we also purchase gifts for "angels" in our school community. We take part in the Community Day Festival and Parade by sponsoring a booth, which allows us to meet and greet the community. Our church continues to support our local food pantry by providing needed items throughout the year. Since our last pastor left, our church has named an interim representative to serve with the West Clark Ministerial Association. This provides our church with an opportunity for an open dialogue to address community wide concerns with other local churches.

What else do you want your next pastor to know about your congregation?

We are a friendly congregation of willing workers looking to serve others. Due to our size, our committees and chairs have the knowledge and experience to work independently of pastor guidance. We strive for ways to involve more youth. Our youth bell choir is an example of involving youth from outside our church family as well as within our church family. We continue to serve and meet the needs of our aging congregation by providing outreach and pastoral care to those unable to attend regular worship services.
