Doctoral Music Students Present Recital

On Sunday, August 25th, at 2 p.m. the Mitchell Presbyterian Church will host a recital given by three Indiana University doctoral music students.  The classical piano/vocal recital is free to the public.  A free will offering with be gathered and given entirely to the music programs at Mitchell and Bedford Jr/Sr High Schools to provide assistance to students who might not otherwise be able to afford and receive a music education. Light refreshments will be available following the recital.

Please announce this information to your choir and congregation.   We are excited that these musicians are donating their substantial talent to benefit younger students.  The recital will be of benefit to all who attend because the music they present will be outstanding.

Rehoboth Celebrates in August

On Sunday, August 18th, we will celebrate Rehoboth’s 184th birthday and the 51st anniversary of Pastor Hainer’s ordination to the gospel ministry as a teaching elder.

The service will be at 10:30 am, instead of the regular time to accommodate those who may be traveling for the service.

This will be a joint service with the Laconia and Valley City Presbyterian Churches with their pastor, CRE Sharon Kutz-Mellem, assisting in the service. Following worship, we will adjourn to the Fellowship hall for lunch, provided by our Rehoboth cooks, with dessert provided by Laconia and Valley City. We will mark Pastor Hainer’s ordination milestone with a few remarks (all positive, he hopes).

We invite all our members, current and former, our friends and neighbors, and our Christian brothers and sisters from all our community churches to come and celebrate with us.

Jeffersonville First Offers Public Lecture on John Muir

Restless Fires: John Muir’s 1000-Mile Walk to the Gulf 1867-68

Restless FiresAuthor James B. Hunt will discuss his book about John Muir’s 1000-mile walk from Jeffersonville to Florida in 1867-68 on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 222 Walnut Street, Jeffersonville.

Muir is best known as the co-founder of the Sierra Club and the most vocal citizen voice to make Yosemite a national park.  Before the Scottish-born American became a widely-published author and famous naturalist he suffered temporary blindness in an Indianapolis factory accident.

After recovering his eyesight, he devoted his life to the exploration and preservation of the natural world.  He took a train from Indianapolis to Jeffersonville.  After spending one night in our city he began his famous 1000-mile walk to Florida by ferrying from Jeff to Louisville, collecting and cataloguing hundreds of plant species from here to Florida.  Mr. Hunt will address how the walk helped to shape Muir’s spiritual life.

All Are Cordially invited.

Sponsored by Kentucky Interfaith Power and Light and the Green Team of the First Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville, Indiana.
