CPE Extended Unit – Begins Fall, 2011

Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is an action/reflection process of clinical education that is grounded in a person-centered approach to spiritual ministry.  Training is offered to seminarians, clergy, and laity of diverse cultures, ethnicities and faith traditions.

Clinical study of pastoral relationships  and small peer group discussions are the primary learning instruments.  You will be encouraged to focus on your own particular learning needs, while providing valuable feedback to others also committed to adult learning.

IU Health Bloomington Hospital:

September 26, 2011 – April 2, 2012

Seminar Schedule:
Class Day:  Mondays, 8:30 – 4:00 p.m.

Patient Care Hours:
10 hours a week + Weeknight or Weekend On-call Shifts

Tuition: $500.

July 18-21 Columbia Theological Seminary at the Montreat Conference Center Presents A Presbyterian History and Reformed Theology Summer Series: “Ties that Bind—The Presbyterian Church and Race.”

July 18-21 Knowing Our Neighbors: A Purposeful Interfaith Encounter (Summer Scholars 2011) –featuring Ben Campbell Johnson, David Fraccarro, field trips to a mosque and synagogue, and conversation partners from the Jewish, Muslim and Buddhist traditions.

August 1-3 (weekday) AND August 12-13 (weekend) Confessing the Beatitudes (Presbyterian Women Bible Study Training) – co-instructors Margaret Aymer and Rita Boyer  lead the weekday course, and Sharol Hayner leads the weekend course

Fall/Winter Events of Note!!!!

Oct. 31-Nov. 4 Living Into Sabbath– featuring the leadership of Wayne Muller, author of Sabbath and A Life of Being, Having and Doing Enough, this event features three tracks – creative sabbatical planning, a certificate in spiritual formation course, and this year’s Guthrie Scholars.

Jan. 24-26 (January seminars) –CHRISTIANITY AFTER RELIGION: The End of Church and the Birth of a New Spiritual Awakening – Diana Butler Bass and other conversation partners explore how the Spirit might be leading God’s people to live into the future.  The event includes discussions organized around existing denominations/faith traditions, allowing time for participants to explore what a vision for their future might entail.

Financial Aid for Studies Announces New Theological Student Loan Forgiveness Program

The Office of Financial Aid for Studies has announced a new program designed to forgive loans made to seminary graduates who are serving in part-time or temporary pastoral positions in Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregations of 150 members or less.

This program was developed by the General Assembly Mission Council to make service to hard-to-call churches more financially attractive, provide relief to pastors burdened with educational debt and to complement the Board of Pensions’ Seminary Debt Assistance program, seeking especially to serve applicants who are not eligible for that program. More…

Clinical Pastoral Education Opportunity

Clinical Pastoral Education at IU Health Bloomington Hospital

Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is continuing education for ministry with the emphasis on learning from your experience.  In the weekly seminars, with individual supervision and peer consultation, you will be able to focus on your own particular learning needs, and provide valuable feedback to others also committed to adult learning.

The summer CPE program will take place June 6 – August 19, 2011.
Schedule: Mondays – Fridays, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM with a weekly on-call shift.

  • Variety of clinical placement opportunities

You will receive credit for one unit (400 hours) of CPE upon completion of this learning experience. You will meet and learn with a group of peers and will provide spiritual care each week at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital. Also, you will have opportunities to experience on-call shifts during the unit.

We offer a variety of pastoral settings including:  critical care, cardiovascular, oncology, medical-surgical, acute rehab, behavioral health, in-patient and home hospice, and a variety of other in-patient and out-patient services.

Standard ACPE CPE applications may be sent electronically. CLP Continuing Ed. Registration Deadline

The deadline to register for the first CLP continuing education class is fast approaching. The class for Lent & Easter will be held on Feb. 12, 2011. Deadline to register is Feb. 4.

Lincoln Trails will offer four Saturday classes in 2011 as part of its continuing education classes for lay pastors who have been through CLP training. The Rev. Dr. Laura Reason, pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Highland, Ind., will be the instructor.
